Mood : optimistic

So out of the batch of interviews that I did this week, I got a second (well technically third if you count the phone one) interview at a company that I really liked.

They wanted to bring me in first thing Monday morning too.  The first interview went for like an hour, and felt more like I was hanging out with a buddy, so I guess that ended up being a good thing.  I’m very excited about the opprotunity, and the fact that they wanted to bring me in first thing Monday morning is also probably a very good sign.

The atmosphere is great, the pay is right around what I was looking for, the location is great, and most importantly the opprotunity for personal growth is there (they told me I would get to touch pretty much every aspect of the department).

I’m excited, and should hopefully have a concrete offer from them next week should the IT manager like me.  I of course am not counting out any other opprotunity that I am persuing, but at this point I honestly think this is the one for me.

So, out of pure curiousity, I’m wondering how long it has taken you guys to find a job.  I’m certainly not discouraged, as I have been looking for a month and have had plenty of interviews.  With that said, here’s the poll.  I’m a stats geek!

Mood : nostalgic

Well, without realizing it, probably because I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off all over the metro (litterally every corner at this point), this blog is now 4 years old.  Go ahead, look down and to your right.  Yup, first post was made on 2.4.2004.

It is interesting to look back at what was important to me back then, and what is important to me now.  Sure, there was a crazy post in there (well quite a few from back in 04, but thats how we grow, right?).  As a matter of fact, it is going back and looking at those posts that helped me to deal with it differently when this same person and I had a simular blow out back in 2007.  I’d say (and she would likely disagree, but you can’t change everyone’s mind) that I not only handled it better, but was a tad bit more mature about it.  Sure, I still said some things I regreted, but when your told you’ll never make it on your own for a dumb reason, well you tend to get upset especially when you hold that person with such a high regard.  Wherever she is, I hope she has found that happiness and is more calm and content than she was 8 months ago, and certainly wish her luck on her future endeavours.

Anyway, I digressed, and didn’t want to get into that again (but its hard not to when your looking back!).  The original intent of this post was simply to thank you all for reading this mediocrity.  I hope you have had as much fun watching me grow as I have writing about it.  Where will I be another 4 years from now?

Mood : busy

So, the interviews are really rolling in.  I had one interview Monday, one Tuesday, two phone interviews on Wednesday, I have one interview on Thursday and so far one interview next Wednesday.

I’m currently pursuing 6-7 job opprotunities, 2-3 seem VERY interested in me, so as the headline says, first come first served basically.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not being cocky here.  But if a resonable offer comes along (and with this much interest, it’s hard to imagine that it won’t in the next week or two) it wouldn’t be fair to turn it down for either me or the company offering it.  I’ve been on at least a dozen interviews so far, and while I certainly like meeting and learning about all of these companies, it does begin to wear on you after a while.  So, wish me luck, and hopefully by two weeks from now I’ll be able to post some good news.

I’m getting anxious to get to work.  Not because I’m desperate for money, but because I hunger for experience, and I am bored without the challenge that a job in IT is sure to bring me.

Mood : optimistic

I have a great feeling about this batch of interviews.  The one I had yesterday went really well.

I have another Interview today, and yesterday another company called me and scheduled an interview for Thursday.  So far, this week is the busiest week for interviews that I have had yet.  Next week, so far, I only have one interview scheduled, but I have a feeling that will change, as I get called in for second interviews.

Blog Upgrade….

02-25-08

In an effort to keep the hackers and spammers at bay, I have upgraded to the latest version of WordPress (2.3.3).

For those of you who also use wordpress, I would highly recommend you do this upgrade, as it closes a couple of very important holes.  And if your still on an older version of wordpress (older than say, 2.1) the new versions are cool.  They even tell you when your out of date and give you a link to let you know to upgrade.  Does the same for plugins.  Cool.

Well, I have oficially had my degree for two months as of today (well, give or take a day or two).  While it took me around a month to get my resume polished and feel confident enough in it, I oficially started the job hunt a month ago.

In that one month time, I have had about 15 interviews, and easily about 4 dozen phone calls, with countless job applications going in.  Last week, I worked on a project that ended out being a two day project, but was supposed to be a two week project.  Even so, two days work got me enough money to pay my bills for almost two weeks.

Yes, I don’t have permanent employment yet, but I am confident that a job offer is right around the corner.  I have two interviews this week, one today and one tomorrow, from companies that have shown a lot of interest in me personally, and I also have an interview next Wednesday that shows great promises of turning into a job opprotunity.

I KNOW that I’m just days away from recieving that job offer, I can feel it.  And yeah, a month long job hunt is no fun, but this is my career we are talking about.  If it takes a month or two for the right job to find me, and for me to find the right job, well then I’d say it’s worth it.

Good prospects!

02-08-08

Mood : excited

So today, I had a very promising interview with a company in the North Metro.  I don’t want to disclose who just yet, but the job would start out paying just a little less than I was hoping for, but within a year, I would be making more than I was asking for, and that is good.

Plus, after finishing the phone interview, I looked for apartments in and around that area (which is about an hour north of where I live now) and found that I would be paying about a hundred dollars less per month in rent anyways.  WOOHOOO!  The Job wouldn’t start until April, but my chances of getting it are VERY good, because I am flexible.  Job would be weekdays with rotating weekend shifts, which I am also OK with.  Overall, it is an EXCELLENT opprotunity.  Because the job doesn’t start until April, my next interview isn’t until the first week in March, which also works out well which I will explain.

Starting a week from today, and going for 2-3 weeks, I will be working on a contract that will pay me 15 bucks an hour doing system installs.  This job will involve me going to different hospitals in the area, and is also a great stepping stone for this other job.  It will give me more than enough money to make ends meet until the other job starts, and will most likely keep me employed through Feburary.  After that, all I need to do is kill about 3-4 weeks, and then I would start my full time job.

I am extremely excited.  This very well might push my move out date back to June, or at the latest July (so I can build up a bit of a nest egg as well as find furniture) but I think it would really be a change that I need.  Because this job is so far north, I would end up relocating, but I am excited about that prospect as well, as I have spent most of my life in two counties.  I’m not saying one can run away from any problems, because I certainly don’t have any down here, but I do have many painful memories in this area, so a change of scenary would be very nice!

I’ll post updates as I get them, wish me luck!
